Underneath your tooth's outer enamel
and within the dentin is an area of
soft tissue called the pulp, which
carries the tooth's nerves, veins,
arteries and lymph vessels.
Occasionally a tooth can be damaged,
traumatized or decayed to the extent
where the pulp becomes infected
allowing bacteria to seep in and
cause the tooth to die. In this
instance root canal therapy is
recommended in order to save your
tooth. In most cases a crown is
needed to protect the tooth after
root canal therapy so it can
function for a lifetime.
