Crowns (better known as “caps”) are
restorations that cover, or "cap," a
tooth to restore it to its normal
shape and size, strengthening and
improving the appearance of a tooth.
They are custom made to fit
intimately over your prepared tooth
structure. Crowns are necessary when
a tooth is generally broken down and
fillings won't solve the problem.
They are recommended as a solution
for a heavily restored tooth that is
vulnerable to fracture, an
uncomfortable cracked or broken
tooth or to cover a badly shaped or
discoloured tooth. Crowns can be
made from a variety of materials
including porcelain, porcelain fused
to metal, or a high gold alloy.
